Hey, I noticed you have references to the pl2303 usb-serial... Not a bad choice, but:

has several with different voltages. In case anyone needs something less than 3.3V (not many systems, but I've
worked with a few). The drivers seem to work universally pretty much (not that the pl2303 doesn't, but... I've
run into some troublesome pl2303 cables. May have been driver issues. But not these guys. They even have
a variable voltage one, if you're so inclined).
