Perhaps your hardware is not set up correctly. Try connecting the RX and TX together then load putty. If you can see what you type then you should be good. Try soldering again and make sure you do a good solder job. Maybe try switching the RX and TX positions.

If that doesn't work, your tablet may just be toast.
