[Tutorial] - Fixing a bricked system
#31
Hi Deak,
Short story: I bricked my nephew's InnoTab 3S by using a substandard SD card to flash the modified firmware. Now I'm getting the same symptoms described by a post above. I have to disconnect and reconnect the power to turn it on only to get the firmware is updating message. Then it shuts off. I've looked on eBay and elsewhere for the USB to UART (TTL) Cable module PL2303 Converter that you recommend but apparently it has been discontinued and only a few is available from a seller in China, Which will take a month to ship to the US. My searches are leading me to the PL2303HX USB To TTL To UART RS232 COM Cable Module Converter. Amazon description: http://www.amazon.com/PL2303HX-RS232-Cab...B008AGDTA4. Is this a suitable replacement? If not, what would be? In addition, (I know this is a dumb question but I'm going to ask it anyway) should I remove the connectors and strip to the bare wires and solder? All help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I am not familiar enough with those to say if it would work 100%. Yes you would cut the connectors off, strip and solder. If you decide to go for it, let me know if it works. You should also look up the drivers for it and ensure it has drivers for your OS before you purchase and read the reviews.

Hi All,

I bricked storio 3 system.
I applied tuto above with cable and TX RX connection Wink
I succeed to get terminal session.
I followed the procedure to until "app_destroyer.x -f" command
But now, when I restart the system, it's still bricked  Confused  and it's impossible to get terminal session by type 1021.

I have this message :

lola: try soldering them again and maybe swap the RX and TX. If the system is broken too much, it may not be repairable. The device does have to load up enough to load the shell for you to connect to.

abracam: Did you flash the backup? Are you using a high quality SD card? If it was bricked, then you might not be using a very good SD card and if that is the case, there is a chance the backup was corrupted as well. The app destroyer command basically kills the fastboot so it reads from the firmware fully.

Yes this message appeared after flashing backup. The SD card is a Kîngston. I not sure of the quality but message after flashing backup was ok.
Do I have to understand that system is unreperaible ?

Thx.

It is hard to say. I am no expert in this area. Did you let it sit for a bit after booting it up? Give it some time and see if you can get to the terminal somehow.

Hello,

My storio3 can't boot correctly (black screen after storio logo), the sdcarda7 seem corrupted (squashfs error, unable to read some files from /system/).

I'm flashing it with 3_FR_v39.30916-MOD.bin (dd if of) and now the system boot but the main screen is locked to official message "Update fail..... ect"

I'm connected to the busybox of the storio3 and i'm find several errors (see below).

Did you flash a firmware that was not made for your tablet version or did you buy it like this? We make the firmware installers so they match and check the version to make sure they are the same as what is on the tablet so there is no missmatch.

You will need to flash system.bin or kernal.bin with the correct version so they match again.

Does it give an error when you try the flash recovery or can you not even start that?
